Smoky Smash Burger

Inspiration: Bought a cool cook book and found out that Smash Burgers are underrated. Plus, smashing is fun.

 

INGREDIENTS

  1. 1lb ground beef  
  2. 1/2 cup yellow onion 
  3. Smoked Out pepper flakes 
  4. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  5. 1/4 teaspoon pepper 
  6. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire
  7. olive oil 
  8. 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 
  9. 2 slices of bacon chopped 
  10. Colby Jack or preferred cheese 
  11. 4 hamburger buns 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix yellow onion, salt, pepper, Smoked Out pepper flakes, bacon, and Worcestershire into ground beef.
  2. Form four 1/3 lb hamburger balls.
  3. Heat large cast-iron skillet on medium-medium high temperature.
  4. When hot, add ghee and let it start to melt.
  5. Drop burger balls into skillet 
  6. Smash burger within 30 seconds of adding it to skillet.
  7. Cook 2-3 minutes, check for nice char then flip patties.
  8. Cook another couple of minutes to char (typically you will cook for less time on this side).
  9. Add cheese to patties.
  10. Pull off patties.
  11. Cool down skillet and add 1-2 tablespoons of butter.
  12. Put hamburger buns on skillet face down for 30-60 seconds.
  13. Add patties and your favorite toppings to buns.
